Illinois Career and Technical Education

Project Lead: Christy Montgomery-Jones

The Region 9 Comprehensive Center (R9CC) is working to support the Illinois Perkins V state plan which aims to empower and support all students to achieve their life and career goals through an aligned, equitable and high-quality career pathway system. The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) Department of Career and Technical Education (CTE) and Innovation has set internal goals, including determining the percentage of all students, CTE students, and CTE concentrators who earn an Industry-Recognized Credential (IRC) and supporting implementation of work-based learning.

To support these goals, R9CC is collaborating with ISBE’s Department of CTE and Innovation to identify the percentage of all students, CTE students and CTE concentrators who earn an IRC. The baseline data will guide ISBE in understanding where current gaps and opportunities exist, including ensuring equitable access for credentialing opportunities for all students. R9CC is also helping ISBE to map out the current data collection process and create a communication plan template that can be used to inform school districts about Illinois Perkins V goals and processes.
