Iowa Needs Assessment

Project Lead: Jim Colyott

The Iowa Department of Education (IDE) conducted trainings for area education agencies (AEAs) last year on a new needs assessment process. IDE wants to ensure that the new needs assessment process aligns with the Department’s goals, is being implemented consistently across all of the area education agencies (AEAs) and school districts and includes necessary components to become a strong and effective process that benefits schools and districts.

R9CC is collaborating with IDE to review their existing district needs assessment process and training materials and gather research on other states’ needs assessment processes. R9CC will also conduct interviews with AEAs and school districts across the state regarding their needs assessment process to determine strengths and areas of improvement. Following the interviews, R9CC will provide a summary of the strengths and improvements and report the findings to IDE.
